    Abstract
Earth Observation for geostationary orbit is very attractive from a mission point of view, as it offered a huge revisit capability and real time data, leading to a full permanence capability. Radiometry and resolution (driven by stability) are however more challenging to achieve due to the large distance to the target.
Alcatel Alenia Space presents a clear road-map of potential geo-observation applications (meteo, environment, security …) to issue satellite and instrument needs; the related satellite and instrument solutions and related technology road-map and to define a consistent geo-observation product line and commercial offer.
Alcatel Alenia Space with its large background of geo-observation satellites (Meteosat, MSG) is now AAS is preparing the third generation (MTG) of geo-observation system and in parallel has initiated R and D and concept studies for high-resolution system from 30m to 1m resolution. In order to provide efficient institutional and commercial solution for Geo Earth observation, AAS has implemented a consistent product line of geo-observation satellite taking benefit of SB4000 avionics (1st geo commercial platform based on star sensor attitude determination), which is presented in the paper.
Optimized satellite- instrument - ground segment solutions have been defined to cover efficiently the high-resolution applications range. The paper will provide a specific focus on the instrument concepts for the various identified applications and the overall related architecture.
The paper finally makes a review of satellite technologies required by geo-observation: from attitude control to telecommunication, according to the class of application from geo-observation.
