    Abstract
    : A 30kN rocket engine, named Pilot Engine, for future applications is being developed in Japan. In this program new approach is applied to develop a highly reliable rocket engine, targeting a future reusable space vehicle, a lunar exploration program, and so on. Major technologies to be acquired are health management and deep throttling, through highly reliable design process. Activity status, relation with the other engine development programs in Japan and prospect relating to Pilot Engine Program are presented.
