    Abstract

The report presents brief description of schematic and design features of RD-861 engine and their influence on the output power-mass characteristics of Cyclone-4 LV 3rd stage. Basic characteristics of the engine are given, as well as test results of the engine and its main components (turbopump, gas generator, system of mixture ratio maintenance). The specific features of the engine are: - autonomous system of mixture ratio maintenance of 1- restart ability (up to 5 times); - injection of the turbine’s exhaust generator gas into the nozzle’s supersonic section; - efficient cooling system of the turbine after engine shutdown; - uncooled nozzle extension manufactured under innovative technology from carbon-carbon composite material.
