- Abstract
High-speed space debris around the earth orbit is of great dangerous to the satellites and the spacecrafts. The study of space debris’ radar cross-section (RCS) is the base of the space-based probe and identification technique. The study of the radar cross-section of space debris is carried out by EM modeling and measurement. Different modeling methods are used for space debris of different size .The result shows the RCS of space debris is related to the frequency of radar and to their dimensions. For the space debris in the optical region of normal ground-based radar, whose dimension is larger than 10cm, the space EM scatter coupling of its different parts was taken into account. Iterative Physical Optics(IPO) is applied to model the electromagnetic scattering of these universal space debris. The statistical result shows that these debris could be detected easier. For the dangerous space debris whose diameter lies in 1cm to 10cm, MOM was applied The characters of polarization and resonance of these debris were presented. According to the results, it’s hard to detect the dangerous space debris for their small size, and broad frequency technique is suggested.
