    Abstract
A CFD method dealing with equilibrium gas was developed to simulate high altitude hypersonic flows. The aerodynamic performance of a lifting body was studied thereby, and the equilibrium gas effect compared with perfect gas was analyzed. The results show that the density after shock waves and the shock wave boundaries are evidently affected by the equilibrium gas effect, but the total aerodynamic forces and moments exhibit little difference since the pressure after shock waves and that around walls vary partially and slightly with different gas models, i.e., perfect gas and equilibrium gas.
