- Abstract
As space activities continue to play an ever growing role in international interaction, there is a need to lay the foundations of understanding of space security issues for established and emerging space players. Raising the profile of the space security issue portfolio in the international community and at the national level is crucial to achievement of long-term sustainability of space activities and provides Earthly benefits. Space security is a fundamentally international question with profound national implications consequently the International Astronautical Federation Space Security Committee and the Secure World Foundation organized a Forum on the Long-Term Sustainability of Space Activities. The Forum focuses on the perception of space security issues by different space communities (launch services providers, manufacturing sector and end-users). The first convening of the forum entitled “Identifying the Key Challenges to Space Security for 2010” will undertake a comprehensive review of the current challenges to the long-term sustainability of space activities. An assessment of the key problems that may impact the state of space security for 2010 and potential ways forward will be produced and presented.
