- Abstract
EP-Team, Inc. is USA-based company, operating on a global basis, providing logistics support on a multi-modal basis – international air, sea, truck, rail to manufacturers, operators, end-users and launch entities of those components related to rockets and satellite launch requirements, inclusive of, but not limited to motors, payload fairings, hazardous materials (explosives), fuel, etc. Current delivery methods of satellites, support equipment, and launch systems to the respective launch sites utilized by the primary rocket manufacturers in USA, France/French Guiana, Russian Federation and elsewhere has been reasonably well established for several decades; however, new launch systems and changing payloads have stretched existing transportation plans. These new systems require revised transportation guidelines to be developed in order to insure concise delivery schedules are met. Further, elements of governmental trade dictates, licenses and restrictive compliance measures, along with insurance, safety issues, environmental concerns, and cost vs. service must be re-evaluated. Larger payloads come with new obstacles such as road clearances for increased height and width, load weight distribution on transport conveyances, and greater demands for environmental safeguarding during transport. Requisite end-to-end transportation means new challenges are to be met; that differentiates today from tomorrow, and continued evolution of the launch business, and the logistics to support the efforts. The only certainty is change, and new practices and processes will be required to mitigate risk and overcome associated challenges. The authors will share their experience managing the complete transportation of satellites and launch system components will be shared including several recommendations for future planning efforts.
