    Abstract
One major complexity for the systems approach of a space elevator infrastructure is that it crosses so many environments. This paper will address environments from the surface [ocean or terrestrial], the winds and storms of our atmosphere, multiple layers of complex particles and magnetic fields for the first 100 kms, from the lower reaches of space, to GEO and beyond. Some major questions – What are the basic requirements across the multiple environments? – What is the basic systems approach for each? - Are there any showstoppers?
