    Abstract
The space market is experiencing revenue and mindshare growth, as well as increasing implications in multiple industries. The social and economic impacts of investing in space are vast and far reaching for all domains.
Market projections are mainly driven by the impact that the New Space Economy has on the sector, which is rapidly broadening its horizons to include new protagonists. Today, companies have the opportunity to seek competitive advantages in space, to differentiate themselves from their competitors and to meet the needs of emerging markets. However, private corporations will need to build strong relationships with specialized operators of the sector. In this sense, space firms have extensive experience and possess specific knowledge to support every type of space project and maximize its potential.
Argotec, Italian aerospace engineering company, conducted a year-long, multi-phase study to build a structured process that allows companies not belonging to the aerospace industry to expand their business beyond the atmosphere. The study was composed by a desk analysis on the space sector’s commercial potential with the targeting of the most promising industrial sectors. The desk analysis was followed by a series of on-field tests to validate the analysis’ outcomes: Argotec contacted more than 100 companies and carried out a series of pilot tests in order to validate an effective methodology for its new service.
Starting from the study outcomes, the company set up Open SPACE: an innovative service which gives direct access to the space market through cross industry collaborations, revising the term “New Space Economy” into “Sharing Space Economy”. The aim is bringing companies not (yet) operating in the space sector closer to the Sharing Space Economy through the implementation of the ASSE service.
Argotec has always applied unconventional strategies to differentiate itself, recognizing contamination between different environments and industries as a pivotal role. For example, it established the first European commercial partnership - with Lavazza - for the creation of ISSpresso, the first Made in Italy space coffee machine to fly on the ISS.
Argotec strongly believes in this innovative business model which characterizes the company as interplanetary travel companion and allows to develop and create disruptive technologies with potential impact on Earth. This will have significant repercussions on non-space companies’ business: investing in space brings a return in scientific and industrial terms in the order of 7 times for every euro spent and helps product improvement and access to new markets.
