- Abstract
This paper deals with the elaboration of a conceptual framework for tracing and understanding the interconnectedness of space and security in Europe. There is a wide spectrum of possible approaches with regard to the European Union's strategies and policies on the nature of this dualism, which cannot be examined in a historical vacuum and without bearing in mind the various connotations of those two interrelated poles. Hence, the conceptualization of this relationship will situate, firstly in the discussion of the various historical - political parameters, which underpinned the concerted efforts of the EU, before being grounded in the sui generis European legislation. Accordingly, the aim of this study is to portray the evolution of space and security into one significant policy area of the EU and subsequently understand the present developments and the future perspectives of space and security activities in Europe.
