- Abstract
In times of geopolitical instability just like in times of stable cooperation, precise and appropriate translation and interpretation have the most important role to play in international negotiations. This presentation attempts to show the importance and impact of the choice of terms defined (most usually) in the first article of any treaties, national laws such as Article 1 of the French Space Operation Act of 2008, or space cooperation agreements. In this sense, this presentation will focus on the origins, differences and common aspects of French, English and German terminology in space cooperation agreements and their consequences in the implementation of such legal documents. This presentation will be based on concrete examples of translation issues and case study, using e.g. the French Space Operations Act and other national space legislation.
