    Abstract
The fundamental contributions of space science and technology to the achievement of the sustainable development goals has been addressed in multiple political declarations of the last years, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Report of the UN Secretary-General “Our Common Agenda”, and the latest Ministerial Declaration of the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. The inclusion in these documents is a tremendous step, as with the SDG Summit planned for September 2023 and the Summit of the Future for 2024, the visibility of these documents – and the importance of sustainable development – are currently being discussed on a most prominent level. However, the acknowledgements of the contribution of space are limited to a brief reference in all three documents, and the connection between space and sustainability remains mostly unknown by people outside the space sector.
The “Space 2030”-Agenda, adopted by COPUOS in 2021, identifies raising the awareness for the contributions of space science and technology to sustainable development as one of its main objectives. In my presentation, I aim to present a possible, multi-faceted approach to increasing the awareness by using the visibility of both the SDG Summit and the Summit of the Future to prominently acknowledge the importance of space science and technology for sustainability both on a national and a multilateral level.
