Global Commercial Companies Advance Geospatial and Earth Observation technologies for Climate Action with African NAP Countries

- Abstract
This presentation will focus on the ever increasing role that geospatial and Earth observation data, products and services, provided by the global commercial sector,in terms of what they can and do contribute in advancing climate action in Africa. The discussion will center around the degree to which these capabilities are already referenced in African Countries’ National Adaptation Plans (NAPS), and discuss mechanisms that are currently underway for greater adoption and expansion of these technologies in NAPS an those that are yet to be developed. The key applications areas reviewed are: 1.Disaster Resilience - Focusing on floods and resilient cities and 2.Agriculture - Focusing on small farms. The key stakeholders in the NAP Countries in Africa will be identified and reviewed with an overview provided for "A knowledge-based roadmap and guide" that will bring increased awareness to the value of geospatial technologies to assist in priority areas within those National Adaption Plans in Africa. This presentation will highlight the increased community of engaged stakeholders that have participated in Africa with: 1. Recommendations and a list of commercial resources related to geospatial data, tools, solutions of those commercial providers who can and are assisting in Climate Action 2. Impacts of geospatial data, services and products can play in developing improved and robust NAPs and 3. Demonstrate the increased awareness on challenges and opportunities facing Africa with access to geospatial data, tools, products and services along with Next Steps needed.
