- Abstract
Remarkable new navigation capabilities will become available globally in the next decade as a result of satellite system developments recently undertaken. Two key developments are the implementation of a second satellite navigation system called Galileo and the improvement of the existing satellite navigation system (Global Positioning System). Receivers combining these systems will provide users with unparalleled navigation accuracy, increased reliability and higher integrity. The extensive use of such receivers in automobiles, aircraft and other platforms will improve their economy. The quantitative description of these capabilities and the implementation schedule are also presented.
