    Abstract

In order to minimize the weight of the structure and improve the efficiency of the launch, an optimization of the propellant tank of launch vehicle is carried out. The propellant tank is usually made of stiffened cylindrical shell with (-45º,45º) quadrangle grid or (0, -30º,30º) isogrid. The theoretical and experimental investigation is focused on the optimization of angle of the grid of stiffened tank subjecting to axial pressure in the flight. It is shown that the optimum angle is about (-39º,39º),which is related to the ratio of the mass of ribs and shell. A range of the optimum ratio is usually between 0.4 to 0.6. The study indicates the critical axial pressure of cylindrical shell stiffened by the optimizational grid is higher 20% to 27% than that by (-45º,45º)quadrangle grid.
