- Abstract
Since 2000, the United Nations and the International Academy of Astronautics have jointly organised an annual Workshop in the framework of the International Astronautical Congresses on the subject of Small Satellites at the Service of Developing Countries. The organisation of these Workshops results from the Third UNISPACE Conference. It is considered appropriate by the Chairmen of these several Workshops to examine the information collected, to assess the benefits of the small satellite programmes as perceived through the workshops, and to synthesise some of the results achieved so far. After a brief recall of the recommendations made at UNISPACE III, the paper will present a brief summary and analysis of the programmes in Latin America, Africa and Asia which have served as the basis for the recommendations made at the Workshops. The paper will then present a synthesis of these recommendations and will review the extent to which the recommendations made at UNISPACE III are implemented.
