- Abstract
Dynamics and control of space tether system is treated as the nonlinear problem of rotating - centrifugal force field. The deployment and retrieval control problems of the tether system have been analyzed numerically. In the present study, a new concept of control maneuver problem is presented in order to control the attitude of space tether system. The present problem formulation is named as “Turn over problem”, and the problem is the rest-to-rest problem to maneuver a subsatellite from the nominal equilibrium position to another equilibrium one by using only the tether tension as the control input. An example is presented to employ the control to the electro dynamic tether (EDT) system. The present maneuver may enable both re-boost and de-orbit acceleration by using only one couple of electro system and it may reduce to the simplification and decrease in weight of the total system. The Switching Proportional-Derivative (SPD) control is employed to the maneuver as the fundamental approach. The SPD technique choses the control input for the each phase of the maneuver. Numerical results show some of typical solutions and significant performance for the present dynamical problem. In addition, several optimization methods for the adjustment of control parameters have been analyzed.
