- Abstract
The sub-scale nozzle consists of the 4-D carbon/carbon composite as the nozzle throat, silica/phenol as the outer surface of the nozzle entrance, carbon/phenol as the inner surface of the expansion part and steel as the outer surface of the expansion part. For this sub-scale nozzle, transient heat-transfer analysis was done for obtaining the temperature distribution during the ground firing test. Also the results of the analysis were compared with the firing test results of the sub-scale motor. There are good agreements with each result. In the finite element analysis, the axis-symmetric elements are used. Temperature in the inner surface is much higher than the outer surface.
