    Abstract
To realize Space Solar Power System (SSPS), development of Microwave Power Transmission (MPT) system with high power, high efficiency, highly-accurate beam control, compactness and light-weight is strongly required. Recently, a novel technique of an active integrated antenna (AIA) technology, which integrates a planar antenna with a planar active circuit, has been developed. This technique can provide improvement of loss between the active circuit and the antenna. Furthermore, the integration leads to reduction of the size. Therefore, the AIA concept is very attractive and could be one of promising candidate for SSPS and the MPT system. The AIA for the SSPS consists of a high power amplifier with high efficiency and a low loss phase shifter in the circuit part, and a light / simple antenna in the radiation part. In order to minimize the area for the circuits and the antennas, and to integrate the functions as a module structure (a unit panel), the layered-type AIA is chosen. The unit panel configuration has been considered to be realistic from a view-point of actual manufacturing and maintenance for the huge array antenna.

In this paper, requirements to the MPT technology for SSPS are introduced firstly. Then, a design method and test results of a prototype unit panel with the 2-by-2 AIA amplifier array are demonstrated. The prototype AIA array consists of a circuit plane (driver / power amplifier circuits) and an antenna plane. A 1W-class power amplifier with class AB operation is designed for the AIA. In the power amplifier design, compactness of the circuit is one of important points to construct 2-dimensional and thin AIA structure. To reduce the circuit size, the amplifier circuit is designed on a substrate with a dielectric constant of 10.0 and a thickness of 0.8mm. Through the design and the fabrication, the sufficient compactness and the operation have been confirmed. Finally, operation of the amplifiers integrated with a microstrip patch antenna array will be demonstrated.
