    Abstract
Since several years, CNES has initiated several phases of studies dedicated to a first generation experimental vehicle. This vehicle, dubbed Pre-X, is dedicated to mastering of glided atmospheric re-entry. The experimental objectives are focusing on Thermal Protection System and thermo structures, Aerothermodynamics (ATD) phenomena, control using aerodynamic flaps, measurement system and system concept end design in a end to end process.
Following a phase A1 performed in 2004 and whose objective was to consolidate the aerodynamic shape design, CNES has committed at the beginning of 2005 an important phase with the objective to reach a Preliminary Design Review by mid of 2006. At that time the decision for a full development will have to be taken. This phase will be led by EADS-ST as prime contractor in parallel of the consolidation studies initiated by ESA in the frame of FLPP.
European partners (Germany, Belgium) are going to be involved in the coming phases as well as Russian partners.

Considering the challenge of this project, several key and critical activities were initiated in parallel of the system vehicle studies. These studies and demonstrations were anticipated early during the phase A1 in the field of Thermal Protection System, ATD phenomena and measurement systems, with the support of Region Aquitaine.

This paper is going to present the coherence of the activities performed in support to the Pre-X phases A and B as well as the phase A and B activities and the organisation implemented. Considering the status at the end of phase A1, the logic and the objectives of the activities will be presented with the associated programmatic.
The current status results (end of phase A) and orientations will be also presented.
