- Abstract
New space utilization will not realize without innovation to effective space transportation system supporting it. Reusability, which is the key of that purpose, is also the technology to improve reliability and safety of a transportation system drastically. For this technology maturation, it is necessary to start demonstrating it as early as possible, and to accumulate it by continuous operation. Reflecting on failure of a H-IIA launch vehicle, JAXA is now planning “Daily-shuttle project” which demonstrate common technologies between future ELV and RLV in order to enhance the robustness of the launch vehicle through operating vertical take-off vertical landing type reusable experimental vehicle. Making use of an advantageous characteristic of this comparatively small project, high reliability design scheme which is strongly required these days will be applied to the lifecycle of the system, from the concept design phase to operation phase, verified its validity and finally aimed at practical use. And making use of knowledge concerning RLV such as fault tolerant system in expendable launch vehicle, this project is allocated to the leading car or a tugboat which aims at reliability as a person can board and go in one step ahead of reliability improvement of a launch vehicle by fusion of ELV and RLV technology.Technology of each field such as propulsion and avionics system will be also demonstrated and experience accumulation is one of the most important purposes to improve the quality of an engineer of JAXA and private companies both sides.
