    Abstract
The paper describes a new initative in the area of careers guidance for young people. Key actors in the European Space Sector, representing government-funded research (ESA), education (ISU), industry (Eurospace) and society (CVA) will cooperate in a series of activities which use space as a hook to promote a wide range of science, engineering and technology (SET) education and careers.

Space, as an interdisciplinary research area, is an ideal context in which to target young people who are approaching the phase of transition from school to further education, vocational training or university study. The creation of a modern and dynamic image of the working environment for such careers is central to the envisaged activities.

Within the EC-ESA Framework Agreement, the EC and ESA are jointly developing a European Space Policy to cover the period 2007-2013, which also includes aspects of space education and career promotion. The promotion of careers in space-related areas is defined in the development of the European Space Education Program, to which the activities described below are highly complementary.

The partners intend to carry out the following activities: a Careers Survey, national Career Information Activities, a new Space Careers Website, a Science Ambassadors programme and the broadening of access to ISU / CVA courses. These are described in detail in the paper.
