    Abstract
To enhance adolescent’s involvement with science many attempts have been made at science museums, community centers, universities, etc. by way of science shows, experiment classes, contests, camps, etc. that involved professors, scientists, engineers, etc.
YAC-J(Young Astronauts Club-Japan), a pioneer in space education in Japan since 1986, uses space to inspire the youth engaging their dreams and curiosity, encourages them to pursue the study of science and technology and prepares them for the future. YAC-J operates the activities on a long-term basis over a wide age range, from children to adults, changing their roles accordingly up to be coming Leaders.
While performing various space and science activities in local communities, YAC-J launched a progressive activity named Space Academy in 2004. It focused on junior and senior high school student members who had 3 to 10 years experience in YAC-J Chapters. They are highly motivated to continue their education. Space Academy stressed voluntary involvement and commitment. The young people have a mission to develop and complete a project on space and science by working in a team. Later they implement that program for younger children.
By adopting the skills of science facilitation an instructor carefully guides and brings out abilities and challenges their sprit. In the process of the research, discussions, consultation and presentation they develop interactive relationships with their peers by sharing the joy of creation and conquering difficulties, and developing a new partnerships with the Leaders.
Space Academy offers the youth opportunities not only to further the study of space and science, but to discover the meaning of study, to measure their own progress and attains self-assurance which will benefit their lives.
