    Abstract

    By the STS 122 launch, the European Spacelab Columbus is now docked to International Space Station (ISS) and its scientific utilization on micro-gravity field is started. In order to optimize its scientific utilization, dedicated integrated assessment vs. both the emitted internal acoustics and micro-vibration environment quality were performed. The main goal of these assessments is to see potential operational constraints of the payloads community for induced on orbit vibro-acoustic environment control. The aim of this paper is to highlight:

    • The integrated assessment approach based on measured test data, of both the Columbus Core and the foreseen payloads community
    • The planned on orbit measurements for performance verification
    • The reliability of the assessment method based on measured vibro-acoustic transmissibility, acoustic and vibrational environments and on super-imposition method for the total vibro-acoustic and micro-gravity environments prediction

    In the frame of this paper, Columbus stage 1E, 1J/A and 1J integrated performances are presented vs. the NC50 and the ISS micro-g requirement. The correlation between the expected on orbit internal emitted acoustics and micro-g environment and the on orbit measured one allows to verify the design and verification approach of the pressurized module allowing standardisation of industrial procedure for the next manned spacecraft module generation.
