    Abstract
The Convention on the Registration of Objects Launched into Outer Space (Registral Convention) was adopted by the UN General Assembly on 12 November 1974 and opened for signature in New York on 14 January 1975. It entered into force on 15 September 1975.
With the commercialisation and privatisation of outer activities during the past two decades, both sovereign states, international organisations and private entities are now actively participating in launching activities into outer space. The definition of launching state, for example, has been an agenda item in the sessions of the Legal SubCommittee of the Committee of the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space(COPUOS).
This paper will examine and analyse the 1975 Registration Convention, with a view to contributing to the on-going discussions on its provisions.
