    Abstract

With the awarding of the $10M Ansari X PRIZE in 2004, the adventure of privately-provided flight to space has taken on renewed momentum. The X PRIZE and its follow-on activities are inspiring a new generation of entrepreneurs and broadening space beyond the traditional government venue.

Organizations continue to prepare new vehicles and offer private flight opportunities. More prizes and awards have been offered to future achievers; and legal and policy issues are in debate. Much like the nascent years of aviation, private organizations are emerging in the roles of financiers, spacecraft developers, spaceline operators, space hoteliers, and space travel agent.

This plenary will address recent developments in private human space flight and the exciting prospects for the future. The speakers represent a broad range of expertise and involvement in the birth of the personal spaceflight revolution
