- Abstract
In order to meet the requirements of the domestic and international satellite communication market, to speed up the development of China's satellites and improve the reliability of satellites, China Academy of Space Technology (CAST) formulated the technological policy of following the satellite development road of common platform and serialization in the development and management of satellite engineering. CAST has accumulated large experience on orbit, including GEO/LEO application and manned ship. CAST also has thirty-eight years experiences of satellite design, development, manufacture, testing, launch operations and managements. In 1996, CAST started Research and Design for critical items of DFH-4 program. In 2001, the DFH-4 program was approved by Chinese government. In 2003, the qualification tests of equipment level and system level were finished. This thesis describe the Research and Design process of DFH-4 platform, especially for the Engineering Models (EM) and critical items developments. The reliability design and test verification results are also given. During the research and development phase of DFH-4, CAST has taken activities to reinforce product assurance, make thorough design analysis, dependability analysis, introduce qualification and reliability validation tests to improve the reliability and reduce the risk. The DFH-4 provided a new generation, common-used platform for Chinese communications satellite, based on which CAST is developing a batch of new communications satellites. Up to now, DFH-4 has won 4 commercial contracts. SINOSAT-2 is the first application and will be launched in 2006. The DFH-4 will contribute to the replacement of the domestic and international operators' satellites and will offer reliable solutions matching world demand for high-power satellites. The baseline of DFH-4 platform can deliver payload weighs 600~800kg with 8000W power, the service life will be more than 15 years. The DFH-4 will make new applications possible. These include the new generation of mobile and broadband services, digital radio broadcasting and high-definition TV.
