    Abstract
DFH Satellite Co., Ltd is now developing governmental small satellite constellation for Disaster and Environment Monitoring, in which S band synthetic aperture radar (S-SAR) small satellite plays an important role. There is more difference between SAR imaging and optical imaging, therefore, requirement of SAR imager to satellite orbit and platform is different. It is necessary to combine the selection of SAR payload parameters with satellite system parameters. In this paper, firstly, we present a description, performance parameters, basic engineering solution of satellite and its payload SAR, and then we analyze very important relationship between S-SAR imaging and satellite system parameters based on the information processing viewpoint, thirdly, we give an optimal satellite system design baseline on the basis of the analysis results of relationship between satellite parameters and SAR parameters. For example, we study the effects of satellite attitude, satellite orbit, SAR instrument and its internal calibration, SAR raw data compressing and data transmission on the quality of SAR imaging thoroughly, finally we give computer simulation results to validate analysis.
