From Demonstration to Application ----China CAST2000 Smallsat Platform and Its Fleet

Abstract

The first satellite that adopt CAST2000 platform was Test Satellite –II(TS-2). TS-2 was launched successfully on Nov. 18th, 2004. Now the TS-2 satellite is still operational on orbit.
The technical status and abilities of the platform include: 1)three axis stabilization with attitude knowledge better than 0.03 degree; with attitude control accuracy better than  0.05 degree; with attitude stability better than 0.0005 degree per second; and  with attitude maneuver ability. 2)orbit control or orbit maneuver ability. 3)data format accordant to CCSDS standard. 4)S3R power control unit with maximum output of solar array at 1300W EOL. 5)with 350kg maximum payload mass. 6)about 3 years design life time.
This platform can be applied for LEO and MEO mission, especially applicable for earth observation mission.
This paper analyzed the technical characterastics of the platform. Some interesting flight results are also provided. Typical applications and programs using this platform are introduced.
