- Abstract
Within the joint French-Russian research program OURAL devoted to development of new generation launchers technologies it is being studied a macro demonstrator of a cryogenic tank for an RLV. The objectives of this research project are to study, design, produce and test a macro demonstrator of an insulated and equipped cryogenic tank with adjacent devices. The demonstrator is to be representative to both ELV and RLV systems. The paper describes objectives related to a cryogenic tank for the first phase of the project implementation. The main tasks of the study are the following: trade-offs on configurations of cross-section of an RLV; review and analysis of materials for production of the tank wall; cold insulation and heat protection system; design and numerical simulation of the selected insulation structure option including definition of temperature and stress distribution, evaluation of thickness and mass of a multilayer structure. The paper also touches specific objects related to a pressurization system for cryogenic tanks; selection and design of subscale tanks and components; and reviews the methodology of testing.
