    Abstract

In this paper, a fast and simple process of a combination of chemical vapor deposition (CVD) and chemical vapor reaction (CVR) is developed and employed explorately to fabricate C/C/SiC composite materials, using silicon as reaction material, through the direct reaction process of silicon vapor and carbon to form SiC at high temperature. The change of density, the influence of primary pore distribution of C/C composite on mechanical properties and micrograph of the fabricated C/C/SiC composite were investigated and oxidation resistance property of the fabricated composite is measured by static oxidation test. The primary experiment indicated that with various densities, preform architecture and CVR temperature, the density increment of treated material is significantly different. With different reinforcement architecture, the pore distribution is different. When the CVD-made C/C composite, within which large pore can not be eliminated completely, is treated by CVR directly to form SiC, strength of the obtained C/C/SiC composite is very low and its shows brittle fracture because of the formation of coarse grain solid solution. By liquid impregnation/carbonization (LIC), pores become finer and the obtained CVR-made composite posses improved strength. After 65 min oxidation at temperature of 1430K, weight loss of the fabricated composites is less than 2.6
