    Abstract

    Purpose of the present paper is reduction of nose firing (NF) weight.

    Methodology of investigations: praxeological analysis, mathematical programming, finite-element analysis.

    New concept for nose firing weight optimization includes optimized parameters of base layers, honeycomb filler (HF), and frames (more than 20 parameters in total).

    Implementation of new optimization concept is based on using finite-element software complex for NF stressing and stability calculations, and module of structural variable optimization, which is an optimization module from finite-element package.

    This stage, which optimizes structural elements of the item by the criterion of its minimum weight, implements various algorithms of their searching taking into account technological, operating and other limits.

    New optimization concept includes the following possibilities:

    - deep level of optimization of basic structural parameters of NF (base layers, HF and frames) which actually uses comprehensive performance capabilities of polymeric composite materials and HF at up-to-date level of their manufacturing technologies;

    - optimization of parameters within each NF section, which allows to reveal reserves of weight reduction and to implement them in full;

    - taking into account the profile of technological imperfections of HF, skins and frames by including into optimization process the regulated tolerances for the main types of technological imperfections detected using classifiers developed by the authors;

    - checking and securing the bearing capacity of optimal NF in all critical zones, as based on the level and peculiarities of the object manufacturing technology, through realization of technological impacts on the nose firing as a whole and its sections as well, which arise in the process of formation and assembly of the item and result in NF stressed-deformed state not considered in the simulation cases of operation thereof.

    The offered synthesized method of optimization is developed and improved without changing its concept and structure, with a view to involving auxiliary structural elements of the object into optimization process. New concept of optimization was tested on the nose firing of Cyclone-4 launch vehicle, and it allowed reducing NF weight by 19%.
