    Abstract
The first phase of the European programme for solar power from space was conducted during 2003 and 2004. Different studies focussed on two main objectives: 1. Comparison of space based and terrestrial based solar power plant solutions; and 2. solar power satellites and wireless power transmission for space applications and space exploration. The main results of the studies, performed by European industry and in the ?rst case under the leadership of independent European energy consultants have already been reported and published.

The comparison of the summary results obtained during this ?rst phase with results published by Japanese and the US research groups have shown some signi?cant differences that called for a more thorough technical data comparison.

This paper reports the results of a detailed Japanese peer review carried out in 2005 of the results and methods of the ?rst phase of the European SPS programme plan.
