    Abstract
While A5 ESCA version was flight qualified in 2005, many investigations were and will be initiated in order to identify the most promizing concept of the next generation of expendable launch vehicle. Since, several systems and design loops are necessary to reach acceptable preliminary advanced project concepts, recurrent computations have to be carried out taking into account many parameters.

For these studies, EADS-ST implemented a dedicated design tool to perform those recurrent calculations, saving time to investigate more configurations, to consolidate technological, design and structural issues and to assess the sensitivity towards some system design parameters.

As a first step, this tool is developped for liquid linear expendable launch vehicles and will be upgraded in the coming years for parallel configuration (straboard and inboard boosters), solid stages or reusable launch vehicles.

    This tool includes 5 modules,

    - The Geometric module provides liquid stage architecture relying on level-0 system design parameters, such as propellant combination, engine mixture ratio, ullage volumes, tank architecture class, e.g. and features a simplified view of the defined stage.

    - The Stages compilation module performes an assembly of the stage defined throughout the geometric module, adding the upper launch vehicle structures (fairing, equipment bay) and proposes a simplified view of the defined launch vehicle.

    - The General load flow module computes a preliminary estimation of general loads based on beam theory. This module is used to finally assess a mass budget to initiate a system loop including aerodynamic analysis and detailled general loads calculations.

    - The Masses module provides a mass budget of the stage based on general loads, geometric characteristics and on database for masses which cannot be assessed by simple theory.

    - The CATIA V5 module transfers through a parametrization tables all the geometric data to a catia V5 parametric model of the launcher, allowing a 3-D model of the complete launch vehicle. This module also includes some more details of the architecture which cannot be simply model in the other module, such as feeding lines, tank equipment, …

The paper will give an overview of the different modules described above, how this tool is integrated in the end-to-end System Design loop for Advanced projects and its application through evaluations running.
