    Abstract

A project of small engineering test rocket engine termed Pilot Engine, is in progress, which aims at high reliability and high operability. The purpose of this program is to demonstrate technical items such as integrated design methodology for high reliable rocket engine, operation limit testing, and advanced engine simulation technology in a short period of time to make the most of the mobility of small size. This paper describes the current status of the development of the Pilot Engine and its development planning. The required conditions forPilot Engine are as follows: Propellant : Liquid Oxygen and Liquid Hydrogen Thrust : 31kN at sea level Throttling: 30 to 100Isp: more than 325sec Mixture Ratio : more than 4.7 Weight : 106 kg Turn-around Time : 24hrs.
