    Abstract
    Youth represent our most precious resource, the key to both a prosperous economic future and the next space generation. In-teracting with students on a daily basis places educators - at the primary and secondary level in particular - in a unique position to greatly influence the academic and career paths of students. However, when it comes to teaching space, as well as science, math and technology, classroom educators often do not have the scientific background, familiarity or comfort level with the content that is required to provide a relevant and effective learning experience for their students.
    
    This paper will detail the Canadian Space Agency's approach to ensuring that Canadian educators are equipped with the knowledge, skills, attituded and tools to teach science, math and  technology effectively using the space context.
    
    The primary focus of the paper with respect to professional development will be the Canadian Space Agency's annual educa-tor conference that will celebrate its 5th year in 2006. We will examine in particular the strategic approach used in the develop-ment of a pool of subject-matter-experts (Canadian scientists, engineers and astronauts) who become familiar with current trends and climate in the education community through a comprehensive training program.. 
    
    This paper will also cover the concrete results of the evolution of a strong space education community through the develop-ment of a strong working relationship between the education and space science communities.
