    Abstract
EADS Space Transportation during the last decade has created many joint ventures, each of them focused on a particular area of activity.

The paper intends to provide an overview of the various new JVs already existing, or which are going to appear: e.g EURISS, RRSS, Eurockot, and last but not least NGL, etc.

It will also provide some rationale about the raison d’être of these JVs in the commercial and political context surrounding them. Since pure commercial activities are quite limited in the European space arena, there are always strong ties with governments which have to be dealt with. The paper will show the advantages and drawbacks of such ventures and relationships. It will try to point out why these JVs are of interest for governmental or coimmercial customers.

Taking one or two present examples, another aspect will be considered linked to the practical implementation and the difficulties associated with the setting up of these ventures in a multinational context. It will be put into perspective and compared to the benefits expected.
