    Abstract
Doctor of Engineering Sciences, Professor, Corresponding Member of Ukrainian Academy of Sciences Nikolay Fyodorovich Gerasyuta (1919-1987) is among the pioneers of space rocketry in the Soviet Union, among the founders of Yuzhnoye State Design Office and an originator of Ukrainian School of Ballistics, Flight Dynamics and Rocket Control.
Nikolay Fyodorovich has made an important personal contribution to formation and development of Yuzhnoye DO as a powerful scientific and design enterprise. N.F. Gerasyuta was Deputy General Designer, Yuzhnoye SO, and Head of Division for Analytical Engineering and Computations, which provided all phases of missiles and space rockets building with R\&D and computation activities. The problems included ballistics, transient dynamics, rocket controllability, firing accuracy, aerodynamics, heat-mass transfer and etc. He was responsible for the development of rocket control systems by subcontractors. He was a Yuzhnoye SO principle theorist and ideologist, in essence.
A series of complicated scientific and engineering problems were solved under the supervision and with the direct participation of N.F. Gerasyuta, which had been encountered during the development of several generations of combat and space launch systems and spacecraft. The problems were as follows: optimization of rocket performance capabilities, rocket controllability and stability, high firing accuracy, building of orbital and separated head modules, building of anti-missile defense penetration systems, heavy rockets pop-up silo launch, flight dynamics of atmospheric combat modules, dynamics of staging and payload separation, heat transfer and thermal protection of main solid rocket engines and etc.
N.F. Gerasyuta attached primary importance to engineering and scientific manpower training. He was among initiators of foundation of Physics and Engineering Department at Dniepropetrovsk University to train specialists for space rocket industry. He teached at the University for a long time and was Professor and Head of a Chair and trained more than 60 doctors and candidates of engineering sciences.
N.F. Gerasyuta has established a scientific center of mechanics problems in Dniepropetrovsk. Its lines of investigation are as follows: rocket and spacecraft flight dynamics, rocket engines dynamics, rocket and spacecraft aerodynamics and theory and methods of reliability determination.
