    Abstract
Ever increasing social, medical, industrial and economic benefits are being derived from successful transfers of ground-breaking space technologies, developed as part of national and international space programmes, to non-space sectors and products are being continually developed and adapted to meet the growing interest and demand from end user markets.

This paper describes and discusses not only European space technologies available for exploitation and spin-offs that offer social and medical advantages which will enhance our daily lives on Earth, but also examples of space technologies that have actually been successfully transferred to other non-space sectors, such as textiles, automobile, land use, for novel applications which solve specific problems, improve performance and safety or which benefit society in some way.
