- Abstract
The rationale is that a significant number of organisations and states are in the process of creating or enhancing national or regional Earth monitoring systems designed to provide corresponding operational information services. However, this monitoring is global and the various Earth system processes are inextricably inter-linked, so that these various satellite systems can benefit enormously from coordination, which can range from formal arrangements to backup agreements or even a loose support commitment. Much of this cooperation is of course being furthered in connection with both GEO/GEOSS and CEOS. The objectives of the Plenary actions would be: - Report on the status of the operation Earth Monitoring systems of the major space-faring communities - Identify the operational challenges of 2015 - Identify both the opportunities and the obstacles for cooperation - Identify specific actions that can be undertaken
