    Abstract
Alcatel Alenia Space is extending its geostationary satellite family for Telecom missions (Spacebus) to Low Earth Orbit applications (Spacebus-L), from micro satellite class (Spacebus-L-100 : satellite mass 150 Kg) up to medium satellite class (Spacebus-L-1000 : satellite mass 1 ton).

This Spacebus-L family is derived from the existing platforms developed by CNES (Myriade and Proteus) and provides multi-mission capacity : optical High Resolution Earth Observation, Hyperspectral, SAR (active and passive), telecom and scientific mission.

This family inherits from successfully flight proven missions such as Demeter, Jason 1, Calipso, Corot, and includes the following programs under development : SMOS, Jason 2, Cosmo/Skymed and Globalstar 2.

This paper presents the key features of the Spacebus-L family, in terms of performance and general design. The heritage of this family with regard to flight proven missions is detailed. Cost effective methods and processes are addressed.

With the Spacebus-L family, Alcatel Alenia Space proposes to its customers an efficient solution, compatible with theirs needs, and based on a reliable heritage.
