    Abstract
This paper describes the Attitude and Orbit Control Subsystem (AOCS) of the Argo satellite. An overview of AOCS modes, sub-modes, modes transition and hardware selection is presented. The subsystem architecture is organized in which three AOCS modes can be identified: acquisition and safe mode, normal mode and orbit control mode. Several sub-modes are also derived from each AOCS mode. The AOCS modes rely on a reliable control design based on an integrated use of existing hardware: GPS receiver, reaction wheels, magnetic torquers, magnetometer, sun sensor, gyro and star tracker. This allows an effective management of all the mission phases in which the realization of the control performance can always fulfill the Argo mission requirement.
