- Abstract
The European Columbus module was docked to the ISS on February 11, 2008, with activation of all the Subsystems during the Space Shuttle STS122 mission. The Environmental Control and Life Support system has been built under the lead of ASTRIUM Space Transportation Friedrichshafen, relying on newly developed European equipment. This includes, among others, the Condensing Heat Exchanger, the Condensate Water Separator and the Fans. The paper will give a short overview of the entire ECLS system and its features and it will present in detail the initial activation steps. The in-orbit performance and monitoring of the ECLS subsystem will be compared to the on-ground test experiences and initial non-nominal respectively not expected monitors will be evaluated and failure isolation and recovery activities, as necessary, will be shown.
