- Abstract
Contestants for the Google Lunar X Prize (GLXP), regardless of which team wins and even if none does, will generate knowledge, operating skills, hardware, software and publicity that can foster lunar projects beyond the prize effort itself. In this paper we describe and advocate the use of GLXP as a springboard for educational lunar projects in the developing world. This GLXP stimulus will gain leverage via several existing initiatives. For example, the GLXP contestants will produce small lunar rovers that can be replicated or even improved upon by student teams worldwide. Also, tracking and data acquisition by AMSAT teams is a possibility. These and other examples are to be explored in this paper.
