- Abstract
In October 2007 the Cosmic Vision candidate missions have been selected by ESA’s Space Science Advisory Committee (SSAC) and confirmed by SPC in November 2007 for further assessment, with a potential launch in the 2017/2018 timeframe. Immediately after the selection process the detailed planning and organisation of the assessment studies started. The assessment study activities, to be completed by autumn 2009, include an internal assessment of the selected candidate missions, followed by industrial assessment studies. The internal assessment is used in preparation of the industrial studies, to establish the baseline concepts and to consolidate and iterate on the detailed mission requirements provided in the Cosmic Vision proposals, in close cooperation with the respective Science Study Teams. The selected Astrophysics mission concepts, namely PLATO, the Dark Energy Mission, SPICA and XEUS, together with the overall study approach and current status of the ongoing studies will be presented in this paper.
