- Abstract
Snow and ice storms plagued southern China since mid-January. Leading to widespread traffic jams, structual collaposes, blackouts and crop losses in 19 provinces. Leaving 129 peoples dead and causing 213 billion US dollar of losses. During the process of disaster relief, satellite remote sensing played an important role in disaster warning and monitoring. Especially in the pre-disaster warning, with the processing and analysis of satellite image, an effective prediction had been made with time, area, and scale etc., which provided a valuable information to disaster relief. However, due to the effect of cloud and limitation of payload abilities, the need for disaster monitoring was not well satisfied. This paper introduced the application of Chinese domestic satellites and also some foreign satellites during and after the disaster, including Fengyun-1D and Fengyun-2 meteorological satellites, CBERS satellites, Beijing-1 satellite and so on. According to the deficiency of present system, some comments has been suggested to improve the system ability, such as to develop radar satellite and quick revisit optical satellite, to coordinate the application of space system and aero-based system ,to enhance the research on application technology and so on. Key word: Satellite remote sensing, Satellite application, Disasater warning , Disaster monitoring, Disaster relief
