- Abstract
This year, in 2008, the Japanese Experiment Module called ”KIBO” enters into its operational phase shortly after 1J shuttle mission (STS-124). Prior to that, two experiment racks called Saibo rack and Ryutai rack should be carried to the ISS by 1J/A shuttle mission (STS-123). The onboard commissioning of those two racks will take place in June-July time frame, and then full-scale utilization of Kibo module will raise its curtain. The Kibo utilization is not limited to the science but is open to various activities such as education, human culture and commercial work. To promote the Kibo utilization, JAXA conducted several AO’s in each field already. Consequently, we have gathered 100 Experiments. In addition to those, 14 science themes were newly selected for the future (after 2010) utilization in KIBO in March this year. In this presentation, I will show Japan’s near-term and long-term ISS utilization plan as well as the results of some experiments which would be conducted in the KIBO as its early phase utilization.
