    Abstract
Over the last 50 years, in parallel with the development of space science and exploration, there has been a substantial development of space technologies. These include Earth Observation (EO), Satellite Communication (SatCom) and Satellite Navigation (SatNav). These are already extensively used in several military, and high profile commercial and governmental applications, such as meteorology, car navigation, TV broadcasting and tracking.

Important though these applications are, they represent merely the tip of a very large iceberg. The integration of the various space technologies, both among themselves and with existing terrestrial techniques and sensors will create a large number of new applications, involving practically every aspect of society and government. In the process, they will generate new business, create new jobs, and add to the wealth, wellbeing, security and quality of life of the citizens of economically advanced countries.

Moreover, integrated space technologies can also be used extensively to help developing and under-developed countries, through the monitoring of their environment (such as the quality of their lake water), the spread of contagious diseases, the local effects of climate change, early warning on natural disasters and, of course, supporting peacekeeping missions in areas of conflict.
