    Abstract
An innovative finite element method, self-adapting delamination element method, was proposed in this paper, which can model the progressive delamination process of laminates really and with high efficiency. In this method the sub-element can be generated automatically according to the occurring and extending of the delamination damage. Based on this method, the low-velocity impact damage of laminates was analyzed using linear and nonlinear dynamical method, and geometrical nonlinear static analysis on the compressive strength of laminates after impact was both performed. The analysis results agreed well with experiments.
