- Abstract
Residual stresses exist in some raw materials and manufactured parts. Controlling these stresses during the manufacturing of flat parts is a difficult task, and requires a lot of effort. In this paper, the problem of residual stresses in flat plates made of Al 7075-T7351 for use in space structures such as satellites, has been considered. Experiments were carried out using three clamping methods, namely; the conventional side clamping, multipoint clamping, and glue clamping for clamping of bottom of the workpieces. The experimental results show that the multipoint clamping and glue clamping methods produce acceptable results, and can be used for controlling the residual stresses for obtaining the flatness tolerances required in the space Industry.
